Update Regarding Day Services

Dear Clients, Families, and Caregivers,

We trust that you continue to stay safe and keep well.  With the guidance of the Public Health Office and everyone’s attention to the advice from the Public Health Office, the COVID 19 situation on PEI has been very well managed to date.

In the current time, Community Connections is focusing our attention to our residential services and supporting our residential services to stay safe and healthy from the COVID 19 virus.  The ongoing contributions from all staff towards the care of our clients in residential services is so much appreciated.  We are grateful for the work that all staff continue to do in support of our clients and each other to remain safe and healthy.

Though it continues to be a challenging time for us all, to date there has been no community spread of COVID 19 identified on PEI.  That is very promising for the Island as we look forward to a return to more normal times.  We also look forward to the opportunity for Community Connections to continue with the provision of the various support services to our clients and families.

In my previous email, the closure of day services was further extended until May 11th, 2020.

The closure was in alignment with the announcement regarding school closures.  There has been no further announcement regarding the May 11th, 2020 date.  Community Connections and the other Island NGOs continue to have weekly discussion with our department (Department of Social Development and Housing) and the Public Health Office as to when it will be safe to commence with the day services operations.

In the weekly conference call today with the department, there has been no additional date identified as to when day services operations will be allowed to re-open.  Once we have more definite news, it is our plan to communicate that information to you as soon as possible.  As well, to give you as much notice as possible ahead of the re-opening of our day services operations.

It is a discouraging time for all of us due to the loss and restrictions on normal activities. It is certainly different for your sons and daughters who have not been allowed to connect with their friends and participate in their regular activities with our staff.  And it is a reciprocal feeling as well that our staff are not able to connect with your sons and daughters through this time.  We all hope and know that these circumstances due to COVID 19 will also pass and we look forward to that time soon.

Please stay in touch and connected with our staff.  Your communication and comments are important to us, and we hope to respond to you to our best ability.  Continue to stay healthy and stay safe.  Take good care for now.
